From 1845 to the present there have only been 28 Chief Justices. Approximately 11% of the Chief Justices have been from Union County. There are 159 counties in Georgia.
From 1896 to the 1944, Chief Justices were elected by the people. Previously they had been chosen by the legislature. Starting in 1945, the Chief Justice was and is chosen by a vote of the Associate Justices.
