Restored 1906 Butt-Mock Home
2006 was the 100th Anniversary for the Butt-Mock Home
The 1906 Butt - Mock Home stands on a 1.8-acre site at the Union County Historical Society’s Mountain Life Museum, located just a block south of the Square. It was donated to the Historical Society in 1994 by the Grapelle Mock Estate. The house has now been restored. The expansive lawn is the location for the Mountain Heritage Festival, a heritage event that celebrates the history, lifeways, and folk traditions of our mountain community. The house includes a Gift Shop. The house is wheel chair accessible.
The living room, a bedroom, dining room and the kitchen has been has been refurnished with 1930 - 40s furniture. This period was selected because it represents a time when electricity first came to Blairsville from a dynamo at the River Mill on the Nottley River. This was before the TVA. The kitchen contains one of the first electric refrigerators bought in the County. There is an early electric stove and a roller wringer washing machine. All are fully restored and functioning. A period piano and parlor organ are part of the collection. The Society also has the first (1937) hair dresser permanent wave machine used in the County.
It is a great addition to the Society’s mission.
