The Union County Historical Society hosts the Christmas Parade on the first Saturday of December every year.  It is a highlight of the Christmas Season in Blairsville.  The parade is the culmination of activities such as Santa Claus visiting the Old Courthouse and the lighting of the Christmas tree on the Courthouse lawn.  At 6:00 pm, the parade begins on the Union County School property and winds around the beautifully decorated historic square.    As the Union County High School Band performs seasonal music, the bright floats bring excited ooh and aahs from the crowd.  Children race to scoop up the candy thrown from old cars and decorated jeeps.   The excitement builds throughout the long parade to see the “Jolly Old Man”.  Finally, Santa Claus appears laughing and waving to all the delighted children of Union County.
