About the event

The Heritage Festival is held each year at the Mountain Life Museum during Labor Day weekend.  The Union County Historical Society hosts this unique festival, which showcases life back in the 1800s in the mountains of Georgia.  While various bands perform bluegrass music, visitors can observe old-time activities such as blacksmithing, cooking over a fire, spinning, quilting, whittling, making corn husk dolls, and butter churning.  Vendors fill the front yard of the 1906 “Mock House”, which is located one-half block south of the Old Courthouse.  Visitors can also tour the 1860 John Payne cabin, 1840s Duncan-Gillespie cabin, 1868 Mauney barn, and the 1835 Collins cabin.  The Heritage Festival is a homespun, country event that brings back memories of yesteryear in the Blue Ridge Mountains!
